Real Birth or Rebirth of the Ermysted’s Wall 2008-2009
The New Story So Far!

For many years the school climbing wall had languished in a corner of the hyper busy space that is the school sports hall, all alone and un-loved by all but a very few. Many a student have moved through the school having never as much as “crimped” on a hold, “bridged” the wall or “dyno’d” across a precipice. Yet all this in 2008 was finally about to change.
Despite its colourful countenance, its lack of legs (due to possibly overzealous health and safety adherence dictating that 2 metres of holds were removed from the bottom), and its under ultra-violet light dying ropes it had become invisible to nearly everyone.
It would take the vision of the future Headmaster Mr. Hamilton to begin to put the structure in place that would within a year turn the climbing wall from zero to hero as one of the most  over-subscribed, and all-inclusive,  activities on the school sporting  curriculum.
With the kind and continued support of the Parents association, the School Fund and Skipton Connexions a calculated process was put in place that would not only return the wall to full operation but also see seven staff trained to take sessions which was deemed essential for success to be realised.
In line with the NICAS climbing wall awards we have put in place a three level awards process and at the moment we have over 40 students with a level one, twenty nearing level two and a new cohort ready to start straight after Easter when space becomes available.
